Astrônomos descobriram a origem dos estranhos raio-X que começaram a atingir a Terra em 28 de março: um buraco-negro devorando um estrela a 3,9 bilhões de anos-luz.
Dois estudos diferentes, publicados hoje na Nature, mostram em detalhes o acidente cósmico que vem liberando jatos em direção ao nosso planeta.
Foram os dados do satélite Swift, da Nasa, que alertaram os astrônomos sobre uma fonte comum de emissões vinda da constelação de Draco.
Batizada de Swift J1644+57, a fonte começou a ser investigada até que se descobriu sua origem: um buraco negro dormente, em uma galáxia muito distante, estava despertando ao engolir uma estrela. A galáxia está tão longe que levou 3,9 bilhões de anos para os raios chegarem à Terra.
Buracos no espaço
A maioria das galáxias, inclusive as nossa Via Láctea, possui um buraco negro gigante em seu núcleo com milhões de vezes a massa de uma estrela como o Sol. Estima-se que o buraco negro da galáxia que emite a Swift J1644+57 tenha oito milhões de vezes a massa do Sol (o equivalente ao dobro da massa do buraco negro da Via Láctea).
Conforme a estrela é sugada para o buraco, vai sendo destruída pelas forças gravitacionais e seu gás começa a formar um disco. A parte interna dessa espiral gira em direção ao buraco, criando um túnel pelo qual algumas partículas podem ser ejetadas a velocidades que chegam a até 90% à da luz.
Um desses jatos aponta justamente para a Terra (veja nas ilustraçãoes abaixo).
As emissões de rádio são criadas quando os jatos colidem com o ambiente interestelar.

Astronomers have discovered the origin of the X-ray that strangers began to hit Earth on March 28: a black hole eating a star 3.9 billion light-years.
Two separate studies published today in Nature, showing in detail the cosmic accident that is releasing jets toward our planet.
It was the Swift satellite data, NASA astronomers who alerted about a common source of emissions coming from the constellation Draco.
Called Swift J1644 +57, the source has been under investigation until they discovered its source: a dormant black hole in a galaxy far away, was awakened by swallowing a star. The galaxy is so far that took 3.9 billion years for the rays reach the Earth.
Holes in space
Most galaxies, including our Milky Way, has a giant black hole at its core with a million times the mass of a star like the Sun is estimated that the galaxy's black hole that emits the Swift J1644 +57 has eight million times the mass of the Sun (the equivalent of twice the mass of the Milky Way's black hole).
As the star is sucked into the hole, is being destroyed by gravitational forces and its gas begins to form a disk. The inside of this spiral turns toward the hole, creating a tunnel through which some particles may be ejected at speeds that reach 90% of light.
One of these jets points to Earth just (in ilustraçãoes see below).
The radio emissions are created when the jets collide with the interstellar environment.
